Method

How This Mutual Fund Calculator Works

The calculator starts with your initial investment and adds monthly and annual contributions through the holding period. New money is reduced by any front-end sales load. The remaining balance then grows by the assumed return and is reduced by the annual expense ratio, modeled monthly.

At the end of the holding period, the calculator estimates any deferred sales load and optional tax on positive net gains. The net IRR is then estimated from the actual cash-flow timing, which makes it more useful than simply comparing starting and ending balances.
