Scientific Calculator

Use this online scientific calculator for trigonometry, logarithms, exponents, roots, factorials, percentages, memory, and keyboard-based expression checks.

Quick mode check Degrees or radians

Choose the angle mode before using trig functions. This is the most common source of different scientific calculator answers.

Method

How This Scientific Calculator Works

The calculator evaluates the expression you build with the buttons or keyboard. It follows standard operator precedence: parentheses first, then functions, powers, multiplication and division, and finally addition and subtraction.

Trigonometric functions use the selected angle mode. In degree mode, input values for sine, cosine, and tangent are converted to radians before evaluation. Inverse trigonometric functions return degrees when degree mode is selected.

Keyboard support

Fast Keyboard Entry

You can type numbers, operators, decimal points, parentheses, and Enter for equals. Backspace removes the last character, Escape clears the calculator, and letters can start common functions such as sin, cos, tan, log, ln, and sqrt.

Keyboard input is meant to speed up normal use, while the visible buttons keep the calculator practical on mobile and tablet screens.

Practical examples

Common Scientific Calculator Uses

This tool is useful when a basic four-function calculator is not enough.

Trig

Angle and triangle checks

Use sin, cos, tan, and inverse trig for geometry, physics, and engineering-style angle problems.

Growth

Exponents and logarithms

Use powers, natural logs, and base-10 logs for growth, decay, scale, and scientific notation checks.

Exactness

Parentheses and precedence

Build expressions with parentheses to make the order of operations clear before evaluating.

Limitations

Precision, Rounding, and Input Limits

Results are calculated in the browser using JavaScript number handling. That is accurate enough for everyday math checks, study support, and general calculations, but it is not arbitrary-precision symbolic math.

Very large factorials, expressions with invalid parentheses, division by zero, or tangent values near undefined angles may return an error or an extremely large value. Review the expression before relying on the result.

Before trusting a result
  • Check degree versus radian mode.
  • Use parentheses for ambiguous expressions.
  • Confirm percentage behavior.
  • Review rounded results for long decimals.

FAQ

Scientific Calculator FAQ

What is a scientific calculator used for?

A scientific calculator is used for math beyond basic arithmetic, including trigonometry, logarithms, powers, roots, factorials, percentages, and expressions with parentheses.

Does this scientific calculator support degrees and radians?

Yes. You can switch trigonometric functions between degree mode and radian mode before using sine, cosine, tangent, or inverse trigonometric functions.

Can I type on my keyboard instead of pressing buttons?

Yes. Number keys, operators, parentheses, Enter, Backspace, Escape, and common letters for functions are supported. The on-screen buttons remain available for touch devices.

How are percentages handled in this calculator?

The percent button divides the current value by 100. For example, entering 25% evaluates as 0.25. Percentage behavior can differ across physical calculators, so check the expression before relying on the result.

Is this calculator suitable for exams?

This page is intended for study, homework checks, and general arithmetic verification. Exam rules vary by class, test provider, and device policy, so confirm whether online calculators are allowed.

Why might my result differ from another calculator?

Differences can come from degree versus radian mode, rounding, percentage interpretation, operator precedence, or when an expression is evaluated. This calculator displays the expression so you can review the inputs.
